The Famine in Africa: A Response
A call to action.
Dear Friends,
Grace and peace.
We collected $2,247.00 for famine relief on Sunday. James and Jena Nardella, who are on the ground about 4 months a year in Kenya have recommended two organizations:
World Vision and Food for the Hungry.
In an on-going effort we will have a CRUMBS UNDER THE TABLE donation box in the back of the chapel each week. Peggy will collect the money weekly and deposit it into the Rector's Discretionary Fund. Deb Markland will write a check once a month to the organizations.
One idea is for each family and individual to fast a meal a week, or eat soup or rice a couple of meals a week, and then offer that money weekly in the box. It is a gift to have a community to talk with and try and respond to what Dr. Frist has called, "the worst famine on earth". This will keep us connected to each other, and keep us, very remotely, connected to the people trying to respond to the crisis.
I am not sure we can even begin to be understand what it means to be in solidarity with folks walking the path of starvation between Somalia and Kenya, but we can pray daily and keep talking with each other.
Thank you all so much,
love, becca
