Canterbury Gathering - Queer & Christian?

  • St. Augustine's Episcopal Chapel 2308 Vanderbilt Place #D Nashville, TN, 37212 United States (map)

An evening of story and conversation exploring with Kelsey Davis Wednesday, October 20th 6-7:30PM at the A-Frame Chapel.
This is open to Canterbury Students, college/graduate students, and young adults 18-25 years old. Please RSVP to susan@staugustineschapel.org for a headcount for dinner.

Kelsey identifies as both queer and Christian. Join us as we listen to her faith journey, how she has learned to wrestle with Christianity and to construct a theology that honors her orientation, and found a home in the church. We will have time for questions and conversation on all things queer and Christian. So bring your curiosity.

Kelsey is the director of Blue Ridge Service Corps, campus minister at UNCA & WCU, and serves on the Bishop’s staff in the Episcopal Diocese of Western NC. She is passionate about contemplative activism, leadership, theology, and chaplaincy. A former professional soccer player and coach, she loves to spend time outdoors hiking with her wife, Heather, and dog, Nicks. She is currently working on co-founding Christian Athletes Circles, an athlete ministry rooted in: spiritual formation, identity development, leadership, and activism that is open and affirming to all identities. She holds a Master of Divinity and Certificate in Religion and Contemporary Culture from Vanderbilt Divinity School, and a B.A. in Theology with a minor in Education from the University of Portland. She serves on the board of the Center for Contemplative Justice.

Canterbury meets at St. Augustine's Chapel (2308D Vanderbilt Pl) on Wednesdays from 6:30PM-8:00PM. Each week we gather to share a home-cooked meal, followed by a short liturgy service. Our liturgies often include space for:
Prayer and meditation
Scripture and poetry
Reflection and conversation
Guest speakers
In addition to our weekly gatherings on Wednesday evenings, we will often schedule fun outings over the weekend that foster connection and provide space for us to get to know each other (and the Nashville community) better.
